You’re a smart woman and know the value of your money. You’ve planned and dreamed for the ideal retirement – now is the time to make absolutely sure you are on target for the retirement you want.

1. Plan On Accessing Your Assets. Did a great job saving? Good for you – nowthink about how you will put your hands on that money. Check out The Social Security Website  for information on how taxes will apply when you take out your retirement money  - or consult a professional. Remember, you may have 30 years or more of expenses ahead of you, so keep your portfolio balanced to protect the principal but still allow for some growth.

2. Familiarize yourself with Medicare, Medicaid and their respective areas of coverage. Long-term care insurance helps you put money aside if you need to enter a nursing home – something Medicare won’t pay for unless you’re completely out of money.

3. Know All The Options For Social Security. Rememver this is a government run agency (for now). There's a lot of small print. Understand exactly what you’re getting into before you make a decision about when to start drawing on social security.  Once you make a decision, you can’t take it back, so familiarize yourself with all of your options.
